The FSD has been involved for several years in research projects aimed at putting new technologies at the service of mine action and more generally humanitarian action. FSD utilise drones and satellite platforms to supplement survey and assessments and mapping; transitioned practices to digital platforms to increase efficiency, transparency and accuracy

In 2016, FSD published a study on the use of drones in humanitarian projects. Today, the organization is working closely with the Urs Endress Foundation on the FindMine project, which aims to develop a drone to detect explosive remnants of war using ground penetrating radar.
